Strong urges

Recently I've been getting a strong urge to bake Rock cakes. Now I know of rock cakes but haven't made them since I was a child, so I figured this urge is coming from someone else. I've just checked with Mum as to who liked rock cakes and it turns out to be my Grandma, she loved to bake. Love Grandma to bits and never thought she'd visit from the other side as she is now with Grandad so I'm presuming she's just dropped in to say hello.

I love it when my family members drop by and make their presence felt in these rather sweet ways.

Anyone get similar urges to do something and the urge won't go away until you've done it.

I've just found the recipe in an old (1940's) newspaper so I'm off to make some rock cakes now. yum yum yum.

I had a strong urge to bake bread a few months ago; proper home-made bread. I'm not the baking type, so had an idea that this might have been someone close stepping forward from the Sprit world, so yes, this would make sense to me.

My Grandma's sister was very much the baker and very often impresses smells or impressions upon myself and family; infact my first possible spirit sighting (in my mind's eye) was of this lady - I didn't know her in great detail , but described her to my Mum who immediately knew who it was.

I can't give you a definite yes or no, but it would sound very similar to my own experience and I too wondered this at the time myself

I've had a similar experience as well, where I have this strong urge to bake and cook things. I didn't think it was related to the idea of someone visiting from the other side, as I originally thought it's because I'm at that age where I yearn for a family of my own, so I can do things for them. "Motherhood instincts" kicking in even though I'm no where near to that. (22 and don't plan to be a mom until after college)

I have read this topic with interest but couldn't identify with it as I thought I've had no urges to bake anything. However, I suddenly recalled just now that over the past few months I keep getting the urge to cook rice pudding, of all things!

My mother prided herself on her rice puddings (sometimes adding golden syrup to it, making it even more scrumptious). She adored the skin, which was fine by me because I didn't like it. Every time I have cooked a rice pudding I've thought of my mother; she died 28 years ago. I've also relished eating the skin on it. And I have often thought how much my mother would have liked my pudding.

I believed that it was just 'comfort food', but I wonder if it is indeed my mother who is close by. Perhaps she is still in spirit after all this time.

If I put things off (as does happen) and it is something quite important e.g. a legal issue etc, then I am 'nagged' until I do it. This can come as dreams, as feelings and of course the good old solar plexus ' butterflies'. when I lose my temper and say, righ, fine, I will finll that form is lol, it all goes away.
My whole family is full of cooks and bakers, so it would be difficult to say if I had an urge to do something it would be down to one who has passed, or just habit of always being around baking etc
Nice to think they could be around like that though.

Thats an interesting thought actually. Now I am yearning for a family and I'm at the age where I ought to be thinking seriously about it. My husband isn't ready so I'm being patient. What struck me was that it was specifically Rock cakes I wanted to cook and I haven't made those since I was a child (probably 10-11), hence why I mentioned it to my mum.

I tried making Rock cakes and the oven broke, so they were cooked but not brown and were a bit flat. Ooops... Will have to try again now my oven is fixed.

Teehee. That's what I was facing, a repeated urge, dreams, sudden thoughts, even a few very faint whispers. I just hope she provides me with her recipe for Ginger cake as it was delicious and no Ginger cake I've tried quite tastes like Grandma's cake did. Unfortunately her recipe wasn't written anywhere for us to find after her passing. *sigh*

A few months after my mum died I had the urge to make custard tarts, she used to always makes these and ginger snap biscuits for my stepdad and us but the only thing was by the time I went round my stepdad would of eating them lol.

Anyway I made a custard tart but it tasted nothing like what my mum used to make, but I tried, It was funny a good few months later in october time I had a reading at my spiritualist church and the guy said to me, I am being told that you cook but you are terrible at it,, we laughed as is so true, I think she was mainly refering to the custard tart I attempted to make lol.
